Cr5MO1V/A2 die steel ( AISI/SAE A2, ASTM A681 standard, corresponding to GB/T Cr5Mo1V, JIS SKD12, W-Nr. 1.2363,Swedish XW-10,) is a classic medium alloy air quenched die steel, known for its balance of strength and toughness and air quenched micro deformation.

Cr5MO1V Heat Treatment
Annealing: 800-850 ℃ slow cooling, spherical annealing hardness ≤230 HB.
Hardening: 940-960 ℃ air-cooled / oil-cooled, air hardening deformation is only 1/4 of manganese oil hardened steel.
Refractory:
Low temperature (180-220 ℃): 60-64 HRC, high wear resistance.
Medium temperature (510-520 °C): 57-60 HRC, better toughness.
Good toughness, effective hardening section≤50mm
Cr5MO1V Mechanical Property
Tensile strength: ≥ 2300 MPa
Yield strength: ≥ 1700 MPa
Elongation rate: ≥ 8%
Impact toughness: superior to Cr12 and 9Mn2V, with strong resistance to cracking.
Feature
Air quenching micro deformation: It can be quenched and hardened by air cooling, and the deformation after heat treatment is much smaller than 9Mn2V and CrWMn, with stable dimensions.
Good toughness: The toughness is significantly better than that of Cr12 and Cr12MoV, and it is less prone to corner cracking and cracking.
Moderate wear resistance: more wear-resistant than ordinary carbon tool steel and 9Mn2V, suitable for medium load molds.
High hardenability: even thicker sections can be hardened as a whole, with strong versatility.
Polished and grindable: with good surface quality, suitable for precision molds.
