High Strength and Excellent Toughness: The yield strength of SAF2304 flange rings is approximately 450MPa, and the tensile strength is ≥655MPa, which is significantly higher than that of austenitic stainless steel flange rings such as 304L and 316L. It can withstand higher pressure and mechanical loads. Additionally, it exhibits excellent toughness, with an elongation rate of no less than 25%. It maintains good toughness even in low-temperature environments, making it less prone to brittle fracture.
Excellent corrosion resistance: SAF2304 contains 21%-23% chromium, 4.5%-6.5% nickel, and a small amount of nitrogen and other elements, which endows it with good corrosion resistance. Its pitting resistance equivalent (PRE value) reaches 25, comparable to 316L. It exhibits excellent pitting resistance and stress corrosion cracking resistance in chloride solutions, and also demonstrates good uniform corrosion resistance in acidic media such as sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid.
Excellent high-temperature resistance: SAF2304 boasts a melting point ranging from 1420 to 1462℃, demonstrating remarkable stability under high-temperature conditions. It can operate stably within a temperature range of -50℃ to 300℃, meeting the operational requirements of certain high-temperature applications.
Excellent processing and welding performance: SAF2304 exhibits excellent welding performance, eliminating the need for preheating prior to welding. It can be welded using common welding methods such as manual arc welding and argon arc welding, with minimal defects such as cracks occurring during the welding process, facilitating processing, manufacturing, and on-site installation.
Dense structure and smooth surface: SAF2304 flange rings are typically manufactured using forging processes. During forging, internal pores and inclusions in the metal are squeezed out, resulting in a denser internal structure. At the same time, the surface finish is high, reducing subsequent surface treatment work.

corrosion resistance
The PRE value of SAF2304 duplex stainless steel is 25, which is equivalent to the value of 316L stainless steel. When we tested the relationship between critical pitting temperature (CPT) and chloride ion content of several steels in NaCl solution at a potential of 300mV, we found that the CPT value of ASF2304 duplex stainless steel was higher than 304L and comparable to 316L. The test results of several steels in a neutral chloride solution for high-pressure reactors showed that the applied stress was equivalent to the yield strength of the steel at that temperature. The test time was 1000 hours, and the area below the curve where stress corrosion cracking did not occur. In addition, SAF2304 duplex steel has good intergranular corrosion resistance and can be tested by the CuSO4+H2SO4 copper chip method. SAF2304 duplex steel has excellent corrosion resistance in nitric acid, comparable to 304L. In other acids such as sulfuric acid, its corrosion resistance is comparable to 316L, while in organic acids such as formic acid, it is even better than 316L.
Welding performance
SAF 2304 stainless steel has good welding performance and does not require heat treatment before welding. Suitable for welding using SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW methods. When using GTAW welding method, it is necessary to fill the wire and use pure argon or Ar+2% N2 shielding gas.
Process ability
a. The temperature range for hot forming is 1100-950 ℃, followed by quenching treatment after forming.
b. The cold forming method is the same as that of austenitic stainless steel, and it is difficult to deform at the beginning. After reaching the yield limit, the deformation is the same as that of austenitic stainless steel. The deep drawing and cold spinning of SAF 2304 duplex stainless steel are more difficult to form than austenitic stainless steel.
c. Heat treatment solution treatment temperature 950-1050 ℃, rapid cooling. The stress relief annealing temperature is 550-600 ℃.
