Leveling Machine Forging Cold Rolling Work Roll with Material 9Cr2Mo

The forged work roll of the leveler is the core component of the leveler, which directly contacts the metal sheet and undergoes plastic deformation to relieve stress. Due to the high pressure, high friction, and alternating loads involved in the work environment, there are extremely high requirements for its materials and manufacturing processes.

Material

The work roll of the leveling machine is usually forged using high carbon and high chromium alloy steel or cold work die steel. The forging process can eliminate the pores and looseness inside the metal, distribute the metal streamline along the roller body, and significantly improve the strength and impact resistance.

9Cr2Mo: The most commonly used universal material for cold rolling/leveling rolls, with high cost-effectiveness.

C: Provides a foundation for high hardness.

Cr: 1.70% -2.10%: significantly improves hardenability and wear resistance, forming small carbides.

Mo: 0.20% -0.40%: prevents temper brittleness, refines grain size, and improves strength.

Mn: added in small amounts to assist deoxidation and strengthen

Feature

Extremely high hardness: The surface hardness of the roller body usually reaches HRC 60-65 to resist the intense friction of the sheet metal.

Uniform organization: After forging and undergoing good spheroidization annealing, the carbide particles are small and evenly distributed, avoiding peeling.

High compressive strength: able to withstand enormous linear pressure during the leveling process (up to hundreds of tons).

Good hardenability: Ensure a reasonable hardness gradient from the surface to the core of the roller body, avoiding fracture caused by the core being too soft or the surface being too hard.

High fatigue life: able to withstand repeated bending and contact stress, less prone to surface peeling

Application

The 9Cr2Mo forging work roll is mainly used for leveling medium and low strength plates:

Applicable board material:

Mild Steel: The most important application field.

Aluminum plate: with laser texturing or chrome plating treatment.

Stainless Steel: Used for stainless steel plates with moderate thickness (HSS rollers are recommended for thick or hard stainless steel).

Galvanized sheet/color coated sheet: a material that needs to prevent surface scratches.

Applicable types of leveling machines:

Multi roll Leveler: such as 19 roll, 21 roll, and 23 roll leveling machines.

Precision leveling machine: used for leveling stamped parts.

Horizontal cutting line/vertical cutting line: a matching leveling unit in the production line.

Heat Treatment&Surface Treatment

1.Spheroidization annealing:

Purpose: To reduce hardness (to HB 180-220), improve cutting performance, and prepare microstructure for quenching.

2.Rough machining and stress relief tempering:

Remove forging stress and rough machining stress.

3.Preheating and quenching:

Preheating: 500 ° C-650 ° C.

Austenitization temperature: 830 ° C-860 ° C.

Cooling: Oil cooling or polymer quenching.

Note: For leveling rollers, dual frequency induction quenching is usually used, which only heats the surface of the roller body and maintains the un quenched toughness of the core.

4.Low temperature tempering:

Temperature: 160 ° C-200 ° C.

Frequency: Usually 2-3 times.

Purpose: To eliminate residual stresses from quenching and stabilize the martensitic structure.

Final performance indicators:

Surface hardness: HRC 58-64 (adjusted according to the hardness of the leveling plate, the harder the plate, the higher the hardness of the roller).

Hardened layer depth: It is usually required that the effective hardened layer (HRC>50) depth be 8% -12% of the diameter or according to customer drawing requirements (such as 5mm -15mm).

5. Surface Treatment

The surface treatment of 9Cr2Mo roller is mainly aimed at improving wear resistance and preventing scratching of the plate:

Precision Grinding:

The most commonly used method. The surface roughness usually reaches Ra 0.02-0.05 μ m.

Used for leveling ordinary carbon steel and aluminum plates.

Chrome Plating:

Hard chrome plating layer (thickness 0.02mm-0.1mm).

Further improve surface hardness and corrosion resistance to prevent rusting.
