Why Choose 9Cr3Mo?

9Cr3Mo is a high-end roll steel specially developed for high-pressure, high-wear resistance, high rigidity, low deformation tendency and easy precision grinding & polishing rolls. It is perfectly suitable for the high-pressure rolling working condition of lithium battery electrode rolls.


1.9Cr3Mo chemical composition advantage

0.85-0.95% 0.25-0.45% 0.2-0.35% 2.5-3.5% 0.2-0.4% ≤0.025%
9% C: Ensures high hardness and excellent wear resistance after quenching.

3% Cr: Provides strong corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, anti-sticking to electrode sheets, and outstanding hardenability.

Mo: Refines grain structure, resists temper softening, delivers high temperature resistance and thermal fatigue resistance.


2.High hardness with far superior wear life compared to ordinary alloy steel
Hardness can reach HRC 58~62 after quenching and tempering.


3.High rigidity, excellent deformation resistance and deflection resistance, enabling more uniform electrode sheet thickness

Lithium battery roller presses operate under extremely high linear pressure. Conventional rolls are prone to middle bending and thinner ends, resulting in electrode sheet thickness deviation.

9Cr3Mo features dense microstructure, high strength, excellent rigidity and low elastic deformation. It shows minimal deflection under high pressure. Combined with roll bending technology, it easily controls the electrode sheet thickness consistency within ±1μm.

5.Superior polishing performance, ideal for mirror-finish electrode rolls
9Cr3Mo has fine grain structure and low impurity content:

Easily achieves mirror finish with Ra≤0.02μm.


6.Heat resistance and thermal fatigue resistance, suitable for hot rolling process
Both NCM and LFP materials require long-term hot rolling at 80~120℃.

The molybdenum (Mo) element provides high-temperature tempering resistance, keeping the roll from softening and edge collapse under elevated temperatures.

Production Procedure

  • Raw Material
    Electric furnace refined 9Cr3Mo electroslag remelting steel ingot
  • Open Die Forging (Key Process)
    Forging temperature: Initial forging 1150~1200℃, Finish forging 850~900℃
    Process: Upsetting + Drawing, forging ratio ≥3:1
    Forging polar roll
  • Spheroidizing Annealing
    Charge into furnace immediately for spheroidizing annealing after forging.
    Function: Reduce hardness, improve machinability, and prepare microstructure for subsequent quenching.
  • Rough Machining
    Rough turn the outer circle and both end shaft journals on lathe; leave a finishing grinding allowance of 1.5~2.5mm on each side.
  • Pre-quenching and Tempering
    Pre-treatment by quenching + high-temperature tempering.
    Relieve internal stress generated by forging and rough machining.
  • Finishing Reference Machining
    Precision turn center holes at both ends and shaft journal reference surfaces.
  • Final Heat Treatment (Core Key Process)
    Vacuum quenching + multiple high-temperature tempering
    Final hardness: HRC 58~62
  • Precision Cylindrical Grinding (Precision Shaping)
    The dimensional tolerance of roller surface is precisely matched according to lithium battery pole piece matching rollers.
  • Dynamic Balancing Correction
    High-precision dynamic balancing is mandatory for high-speed rolling.
  • Surface Strengthening Treatment (Choose one of two options)
    Option A: Hard Chrome Plating
    Option B: Supersonic Spraying of Tungsten Carbide
  • Ultra-precision Mirror Polishing
  • Final Inspection & Warehousing
