Forging 32Cr3Mo1V Roll Sleeves for Steel Plate Rolling Mill Roll

32Cr3Mo1V roll sleeve is a core working roll sleeve specially designed for hot rolling of steel plates and medium-thick plate rolling mills. It is manufactured from low-carbon medium-alloy hot-work die steel via forging/casting combined with precision heat treatment. It is suitable for heavy-duty rolling equipment such as 4-high reversible rolling mills and slab continuous casting and rolling mills. As the outer layer of the working roll, it directly withstands high temperature, high pressure and alternating thermomechanical loads, ensuring the rolling precision, profile and surface quality of steel plates.

32Cr3Mo1V hot work die steel has high strength, good toughness, good hardenability, high temperature plasticity, good forging performance, and good machinability. It is generally used after tempering, normalizing, and high-temperature tempering.

Roll Sleeve Core Property

High Temperature Strength and Thermal Stability

Retains high yield strength at 600℃, resists high-temperature creep and thermal deformation, suitable for steel hot rolling under 800~1100℃ service conditions.

High Hardness and Wear Resistance

Surface hardness reaches HRC 58~62 after heat treatment, with matched core toughness. Resists oxide scale abrasion and extends rolling service distance.

Excellent Thermal Fatigue Resistance

Molybdenum (Mo) and Vanadium (V) refine grains and form stable carbides, resisting thermal fatigue cracks under repeated heating/cooling cycles and reducing spalling and cracking risks.

Balanced Strength and Toughness

Low-carbon design combined with alloying provides both high surface hardness and high core toughness, delivering good impact and overload resistance for mills with frequent start-stop and variable load conditions.

Good Hardenability

Uniform through-hardening in large sections ensures consistent internal and external performance, suitable for manufacturing large-diameter and long-face roll sleeves.

Roll Sleeve Manufacturing Process

Smelting

Electroslag remelting / vacuum refining is adopted to control purity, reduce inclusions and improve cracking resistance.

Forming

Free forging / die forging (for large sizes) or centrifugal casting to ensure compact microstructure free from porosity and cracks.

Heat Treatment

Quenching + high-temperature tempering (quenching and tempering) to precisely control the hardness gradient, achieving a combination of hard surface and tough core.

Precision Machining

CNC turning → rough grinding → finish grinding → super-finish grinding to guarantee dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

Inspection

100% ultrasonic testing, hardness inspection and full dimensional inspection to ensure no internal defects.
