Advantage of forged steel H13 

H13 forged steel is currently the standard material for roller cutters of raise boring machines . Its core advantage lies in its excellent adaptability to the harsh working conditions of rock breaking in raise boring, including continuous impact, frictional heat generation, alternating loads and severe abrasion, delivering a well-balanced performance in hardness, toughness, hot hardness and crack resistance.

How to Choose Roller Cutter?


Soft Rock (Compressive strength<60 MPa, including mudstone, shale and weathered sandstone)

Recommended cutter body: 42CrMo (optimal cost performance)

Matching cutter inserts: YG8

Recommended tooth type: Wedge tooth

Application scenarios: Shallow shafts, regular roadways, intact strata without massive broken rock


Medium-hard Rock (Compressive strength: 60 ~ 120 MPa, including common sandstone, limestone and sandy shale)

Scheme A (General & Economical Type)
Cutter body: 42CrMo; Cutter inserts: YG10; Tooth type: Conical tooth
Scheme B (Durable Type)
Cutter body: H13; Cutter inserts: YG10; Tooth type: Conical tooth
Application: Working conditions with large drilling footage and continuous operation


Hard Rock (Compressive strength: 120 ~ 180 MPa, including dense limestone, granite and basalt)

Transmission Method 

For raise boring cutters, cylindrical roller bearings are designed for heavy pure radial loads, medium-low speeds and medium-hard rock. Tapered roller bearings are intended for combined heavy radial and axial loads, hard rock, heavy impact conditions, as well as large-diameter and deep boreholes.


Application of Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Rock types: F6–F12 (60–120 MPa), sandstone, limestone, common granite, interbedded soft and hard rock.
Borehole types: Small and medium diameters (≤2 m), moderate depths (≤500 m), including mine ore passes, hydropower surge shafts and ventilation shafts.

Working conditions: Dominated by radial loads with minor axial force, medium impact, medium-low speed; cost performance is prioritized.


Application of Tapered Roller Bearings

Rock types: F12–F18 (120–250 MPa), high-strength granite, basalt, diorite, fractured zones under heavy impact.
Borehole types: Large diameters (≥1.5 m), deep boreholes (≥500 m), including deep mines, large hydropower stations and pumped storage inclined shafts.
Working conditions: Combined heavy radial and axial loads, heavy impact, highly abrasive hard rock; service life and reliability are top priorities.

1.What is a raise boring drilling rig machine?


A raise boring machine is a large-scale equipment used in mining, water conservancy, hydropower and other projects, mainly for excavating vertical shafts, inclined shafts and ventilation shafts.


Its working principle is as follows: first drill a small-diameter pilot hole, then replace it with a large-diameter roller bit, and ream the shaft to the designed size from bottom to top (or top to bottom).


Construction Advantages

Compared with the traditional manual blasting method, it features high safety (workers do not need to enter hazardous working faces), high efficiency and excellent shaft-forming quality.
