FORGE-Cold Roll Work Roll

The forged steel copper foil cold work roll is mainly used in the copper foil rolling mill ( copper foil calender), which is the core spare part for producing rolled copper foil.
The material usually uses Cr3 series alloy steel such as 9Cr3Mo and 8Cr3Mo, which contains high chromium and molybdenum elements . After quenching, induction hardening, cold treatment, and tempering processes, the hardness can reach HRC 65-68 to cope with high-frequency and high-pressure friction losses during copper foil rolling.

The core difference is that the copper foil work roll has a finer diameter, higher surface accuracy, stricter hardness requirements, and purer material to meet the rolling needs of extremely thin copper foil thickness and mirror surface.
For rolling thickness 0.1 mm and above, copper plate work rolls with diameter (Φ160~Φ650 mm), hardness (HRC58~62) and standard-precision surface are adopted.
Both require the use of forged steel material to ensure dense internal structure, refined grain size, and good comprehensive mechanical properties.
The Copper foil rolling mill is a high-precision cold rolling equipment designed specifically for rolling copper foil. It is mainly used to process copper strips into rolled copper foil with thicknesses ranging from a few micrometers to tens of micrometers through multiple passes of rolling. It is widely used in fields such as new energy lithium batteries and PCB circuit boards.

ESR alloy steel ingot is a must because of its high purity, dense structure, uniform composition, and controllable inclusions.It is manufactured by EAF+LF+VD+ESR. ETERNAL strictly controls the content of harmful elements such as P/S(≤0.015% ).
High Temperature Forging

ETERNAL adopts free forging, with multiple upsetting and elongation processes to break down coarse grains in the cast state, allowing for continuous distribution of metal fibers and improving overall strength and impact resistance.
Pre-heat treatment After Forging
Normalization+spheroidization annealing, softening the matrix, refining grains, facilitating subsequent mechanical processing, while eliminating internal stresses during forging.
Rough Machining


Turn the outer circle to remove surface scale, leave machining allowance, and take samples for composition analysis and metallographic test.
Final Heat Treatment


Overall oil quenching+high-temperature tempering+surface deep induction quenching of the roll body+cryogenic treatment+low-temperature tempering;
Purpose: To obtain high hardness and deep quenched hard layer on the working surface of the roll body, retain high toughness in the roll neck and core, and prevent roller breakage and cracking in the roller neck
Final Machining
Grind step by step to meet the requirements of size, roundness, and roughness.
Quality Inspection
UT and MT are used to investigate internal/surface microcracks.

Working conditions where forged steel is preferred: Rough rolling, cogging rolling, large reduction, and heavy-load backup. For medium-to-thick copper foil with a thickness of 15 μm and above.
2.Can ordinary electric arc furnace steel ingots be used instead of ESR steel ingots?
Absolutely prohibited.
